To qualify, applicants need a Grade 12 certificate as a firm requirement, along with Mathematics at Level 4, 50 percent, or Mathematical Literacy at Level 5, 60 percent, plus English at Level 4, 50 percent, and a second language also at Level 4, 50 percent. Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old, currently neither studying nor employed elsewhere, and must not have completed a previous learnership, since the programme is designed to give a genuine first opportunity rather than duplicate a benefit someone has already received. Basic MS Excel and MS Outlook skills are expected, along with strong spoken and written communication in English specifically, given the ongoing client interaction the role involves.
Learners receive a monthly stipend of between R5,000 and R8,000 for the duration of the programme, giving genuine income while training, alongside the accredited qualification itself and real client servicing experience that carries weight when applying for permanent roles afterward, whether at Discovery or elsewhere in the broader insurance and financial services sector, since the FETC: Long Term Insurance qualification is recognised industry wide, not only internally at Discovery.
